If your petrol Stihl MS 170 chainsaw won’t start please follow the instructions below. Though please note if your petrol is more than 30 days old that won’t help. So I would to advise to buy fresh petrol before you start and pour out the old fuel first before you begin and possible buy a new spark and fuel filter.
1. Correct fuel mixture in fuel tank 50:1 (100ml engine oil to 4.5ltrs of petrol)
2. Chain oil added to chain Oil tank
3. Chain brake on
4. Master control Lever to be put in full choke position (squeeze throttle/trigger to enable master control lever to click into place)
5. Full choke position – Pull Recoil to begin to start the engine – A few Quick jerk action is required – Please note the engine will not fully start but you will hear it wanting to start. After it tried to start please put the master control lever into half choke position.
6.Half choke position – Pull Recoil to start the engine – again a few quick jerk action is required – once the engine has started allow the engine to warm up 5-10 seconds. Then flick the master control lever to normal start position or just simply squeeze the trigger to reset.
7. Release Chain Brake when ready to use.
8. To stop flick the master control Lever up to the off position with your thumb.
